Gambiaj.com – (BANJUL, The Gambia) – The Gambia and Senegal this Thursday convened for the second edition of the Senegalese-Gambian Economic, Commercial, and Investment Forum, focusing on addressing bottlenecks in trade, energy, and infrastructure. Under the theme “Invest in Senegal and The Gambia: Partners in Progress,” the two nations aim to bolster economic collaboration and tackle persistent challenges affecting their shared goals.
The forum serves as a platform for dialogue, collaboration, and pragmatic solutions to shared economic challenges.
This year’s agenda includes sessions designed to enhance trade connectivity and streamline customs procedures between the two countries. Discussions will also focus on boosting international trade, improving business environments, and facilitating investment financing.
Infrastructure development and economic zones will feature prominently in the conversations, with a
particular emphasis on energy prospects. Ministers of Energy and executives from SENELEC, Senegal’s national electricity company, will highlight opportunities in the oil, gas, and renewable energy sectors.
In addition to the forum, Prime Minister Sonko will co-chair the fifth session of the Joint Consultative Commission on Friday, a key mechanism for monitoring and enhancing bilateral cooperation.
Prime Minister Sonko, who arrived in Banjul on Wednesday for a two-day working and friendship visit, is leading a government delegation to deepen bilateral ties.
The visit also includes site tours aimed at showcasing The Gambia’s initiatives to strengthen regional partnerships. The outcomes of these discussions are expected to pave the way for actionable strategies to overcome economic bottlenecks and foster shared prosperity.
