The Gambia Armed Forces, in partnership with the Government of Austria and its Armed Forces, recently celebrated the graduation of 10 soldiers from the GAF who successfully completed the Theoretical Basic Ballistic course at the GAF Training School in Bakau on Friday, 22nd March 2024.
The training aimed to equip soldiers with essential twenty-first-century stockpile management skills crucial for safely and securely handling ammunition. The soldiers underwent intensive training covering topics such as principles of ballistics, ammunition identification, storage, handling procedures, as well as risk assessment and mitigation strategies.
The course also included practical exercises to ensure soldiers could apply their theoretical knowledge in real-life situations. This collaboration highlights the importance of international partnerships in enhancing the capabilities and professionalism of military personnel.
The ceremony was graced by dignitaries including the Chief of Defence Staff Gambia Armed Forces Lt Gen Mamat OA Cham, the Austrian Ambassador Her Excellency Ursula Fahringer, the Austrian Defense Attaché to the Gambia based in Dakar, Senegal, the Turkish Military Adviser to the Gambia, the Commandant GAF Training School Lt Col Sainey Bayo, trainers from the Austrian Armed Forces, as well as officers, men, and women from both GAFTS and Guards Battalion, and members of the press.
