Gambiaj.com – (Banjul, The Gambia) – The Government of The Gambia has strongly condemned the recent Israeli airstrikes on the State of Qatar, describing the attack as a grave violation of international law and a threat to regional peace and security.
Israel carried out an unprecedented airstrike in Qatar’s capital, Doha, on Tuesday, targeting residential buildings said to house senior members of Hamas’ political bureau, Qatar’s foreign ministry confirmed Tuesday.
In a statement issued Tuesday, the Gambia’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, International Cooperation, and Gambians Abroad expressed “deep solidarity” with the leadership and people of Qatar following the strike, which resulted in loss of lives, destruction of property, and heightened insecurity in the Gulf.
“The Gambia views this attack as a violation of international law, the sovereignty of the State of Qatar, and the fundamental principles of the Charter of the United Nations,” the statement read. “Such actions within a sovereign state by another sovereign state undermine peace and security in the Middle East and beyond.”
The Gambia called on the United Nations Security Council and regional organizations to take “urgent and decisive measures” to prevent further escalation, protect civilians, and hold those responsible to account.
Reaffirming its commitment to diplomacy and peaceful coexistence, the government stressed that dialogue remains the only path to stability in the region.
“The Gambia stands firmly with Qatar in safeguarding its sovereignty, security, and territorial integrity,” the statement added.
Recently, The Gambia’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, International Cooperation, and Gambians Abroad, Sering Modou Njie, has urged the international community to intensify efforts to break the siege on Gaza and deliver urgent humanitarian aid to Palestinians, describing the situation as “inhumane, genocidal, and catastrophic.”
Minister Nji strongly condemned what he called “unprecedented military aggression” by Israeli forces against civilians in Gaza and the occupied West Bank.
He accused Israel of committing war crimes, genocide, and mass displacement, warning of devastating long-term consequences for Palestinian children and regional stability.
“The humanitarian catastrophe is devastating, with far-reaching consequences not only for the region but also for the Muslim Ummah and the international community,” he said. “The obstruction of humanitarian aid and targeting of aid convoys and workers constitute blatant violations of international humanitarian law.”
He called for an urgent, coordinated international response to protect human rights, ensure aid delivery, and promote peace.
