The Ministry of Communications and Digital Economy, in partnership with the International Telecommunication Union (ITU), recently organized a GovStack Deep Dive workshop aimed at advancing digital service design and delivery in The Gambia. The workshop, part of the GovStack Initiative, focused on accelerating national digital transformation and drew on expertise from stakeholders across various sectors.
GovStack is a collaborative initiative founded by ITU, Estonia, Germany, and the Digital Impact Alliance at the United Nations Foundation. It aims to support countries and organizations in building cost-effective and efficient digital public services that are easy to scale. The initiative follows a “whole-of-government” approach, offering reusable digital services based on interoperable components known as “building blocks.”
Key stakeholders from Government Ministries, Departments, the private sector, and civil society participated in the workshop. They explored and discussed the requirements, specifications, and implementation of several building blocks crucial to the GovStack approach, including Digital ID and Authentication, Registration/Registries and Reporting & dashboard, Geographical Information System including National Digital Address Database, Digital Payments, and Consent Management, E-Signature, and E-Marketplace.
The GovStack framework, developed in collaboration with the ITU, is intended to enhance the efficiency, security, and accessibility of digital services within government entities. The workshop provided a platform for participants to deepen their understanding of the GovStack approach and its potential impact on digital service delivery in The Gambia.
The Ministry of Communications and Digital Economy continues to lead efforts to leverage digital technologies for the benefit of citizens and businesses in The Gambia, as the country seeks to harness the full potential of the digital economy.
