In order to debate the fourth State and Resilience Building Contract (SRBC 4), the Ministry of Finance and Economics Affairs is now hosting a policy dialogue engagement between the Government of The Gambia (GoTG) and the European Union.
The goal of the SRBC 4 is to assist the Gambia’s government in realizing its shared strategic vision for a development agenda that is centered on the green recovery and addresses transitional justice, migration, social protection, and PFM (programme-based budgeting).
The European Union and Banjul signed a new financial agreement in November that calls for a total financing of 40 million euros, or 2.93 billion dalasi, to be distributed for the fiscal years 2023–2025.
The agreement focuses on developing and implementing national development plans for the years 2023–2027, expanding social protection support programs for the most vulnerable citizens, and initiating reforms by the government in response to the promises made in the white paper regarding the TRRC’s recommendations.
In addition, it is anticipated that the funding will improve public financial management’s accountability and relevance for providing the people of The Gambia with basic services.
The roadmap also addressed migration management, emphasizing readmission and reintegration in particular because of the complex problems that irregular migration has caused for Europe and The Gambia. To guarantee that the state owns the budget, the funds are sent to the General Treasury.
The ministers of economic and financial affairs, as well as his delegation from the EU, the interior and justice ministries, and others, are present at the event.
