The Gambia Ferry Services (GFS) has announced the resumption of its traffic operations linking the Banjul-Barra crossing points.
In a press statement issued this evening, the management of Gambia Ferry Services said it “wishes to inform the public and its customers that service has been restored at the Banjul-Barra crossing points. The management apologizes for the inconvenience that the breakdown and maintenance have caused,” the press statement said.
Over the weekend, the Gambia Ferry Services (GFS) announced a disruption in the Banjul-Barra ferry route due to maintenance issues on both ferries, Kunta Kinteh and Kanilai. The ferries were withdrawn from service on Thursday. After a day-long breakdown at Banjul, the Kunta Kinteh and Kanilai ferries completed their first trip.
However, the Kanilai Ferry returned to the terminal to offload, despite being repaired 48 hours earlier.
The situation was further complicated by a decision by the Ferry Services technical supervisor to allow loading of the Kanilai Ferry despite its issues. Management has procured new engines and spare parts for both ferries.”
