Gambia Government Announces Major Appointments and Redeployments in Civil Service

Gambiaj.com – (Banjul, The Gambia) – The Gambia Government has announced a series of high-profile appointments and redeployments within the Civil and Foreign Service, officially aimed at “bolstering productivity across various ministries and diplomatic missions“. The changes, made in consultation with the Public Service Commission, take effect immediately.

As a result, Professor Omar Jah, who previously served as Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of Health, has been appointed as The Gambia’s Ambassador to Morocco.

Meanwhile, Dr. Yusupha Touray, formerly the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Higher Education, Research, Science, and Technology, will now serve as Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of Health.

In a related move, Mrs. Jainaba Jagne, The Gambia’s Ambassador to the African Union in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, has been promoted to Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Higher Education, Research, Science, and Technology.

Taking her place in Addis Ababa is Mrs. Salimatta ET Touray, who previously held the position of Secretary General and Head of the Civil Service.

Further reshuffles include Mrs. Saffie Sankareh, who transitions from Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of Lands, Regional Governments, and Religious Affairs to Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Youth and Sports.

Mrs. Ndey Marie Njie, formerly the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Youth and Sports, will now serve in Mrs. Sankareh’s former role.

Deputy Permanent Secretary positions have also seen notable changes. Mrs. Aji Fanta Ceesay, previously at the Ministry of Health, will now serve in the Office of the President, while Ms. Hulay Camara moves from the Office of the President to the Ministry of Health.

A government press statement indicates that the reshuffle underscores the government’s commitment to strengthening efficiency across key institutions by strategically placing experienced officials in positions where they can make the greatest impact.

In announcing the changes, Government Spokesperson and Presidential Diaspora Adviser Ebrima G. Sankarch emphasized the administration’s focus on fostering a productive workforce. “These appointments reflect our dedication to ensuring that qualified individuals are strategically positioned to drive national development and serve the public effectively,” he stated.

The appointees are expected to bring their expertise and leadership to their new roles, bolstering efforts to meet the country’s development goals and enhance service delivery.
