Gambia Police Force Hosts Senegalese IGP in Historic Visit to Deepen Security Ties

Gambiaj.com – (Banjul, The Gambia) – The Inspector General of Police (IGP), Seedy Mukhtar Touray, on Wednesday, January 8, welcomed Senegalese IGP General Mame Seydou Ndour and his high-powered delegation at the Police Headquarters in Banjul. The visit, described as “historic and pivotal,” marked the second day of General Ndour’s tour aimed at bolstering bilateral security cooperation.

The event saw the presence of key dignitaries, including Ebrima Mboob, Director General of Immigration; Demba Ceesay, Director General of the Drug Law Enforcement Agency; and senior police officials. The delegation was received with a warm welcome at the Police Conference Hall, where IGP Touray emphasized the importance of the collaboration, stating: “This visit is historic and pivotal for advancing our shared national security interests.”

In his response, General Ndour expressed gratitude for the invitation, noting, “It is an honor to be invited to The Gambia Police Force for strengthening cooperation and collaboration.”

Exploring Crime Management Innovations

As part of the visit, the delegation toured critical units of the Crime Management Department, including the Cybercrime Unit, the Forensic and DNA Lab, and the Crime Scene Investigation Unit. The delegation interacted with officers and gained valuable insights into operational processes and technological advancements.

At the Police Intervention Unit (PIU) in Kanifing, Commissioner of Police (CP) Adeline Basangeh and Chief Superintendent of Police (CSP) Babou Jeng delivered an operational presentation. The session included demonstrations of the PIU’s capabilities, highlighting the growing K-9 Unit’s role in crime prevention and public safety.

Cultural Immersion and Strengthening Regional Security

The day concluded with a cultural excursion to the Kachikally Crocodile Pool in Bakau, providing the Senegalese delegation with an opportunity to experience Gambian tradition and heritage. The visit underscored the importance of cultural diplomacy in strengthening bilateral relationships.

This visit by General Ndour and his delegation marks a significant step in fostering closer ties between The Gambia Police Force and Senegal’s security apparatus. Both nations share mutual interests in maintaining regional stability and combating transnational crimes.
