Gambiaj.com – (BANJUL) – The Gambia Police Force, in collaboration with Interpol, the EU, and other regional partners, launched the Automated Fingerprint Identification System (AFIS) project at the Atlantic Hotel in Banjul on Tuesday, April 16, 2024.
The AFIS project is a groundbreaking initiative aimed at enhancing the fingerprint identification capabilities of law enforcement agencies across the region. By digitizing fingerprints and comparing them against a global database, the system is expected to significantly improve crime-solving efficiency and effectiveness.
The launch event was attended by key stakeholders and featured welcoming remarks from ASP Francis Jatta. Speeches were delivered by NSA representative Mulie Colley, Interpol’s Hervé Raffourt, the EU’s Raphael Brigandi, and CP Samba Jawo on behalf of the Inspector General of Police.
During the presentations, the speakers highlighted the significant advancements in crime-solving technology that the AFIS project brings. They detailed the technical aspects of the system and outlined the implementation phases expected to transform crime prevention efforts in The Gambia and neighbouring countries.
