Gambiaj.com – (BANJUL) – The Gambia Police Force, in collaboration with the Kofi Annan International Peacekeeping Training Center (KAIPTC), has launched a two-week training course on Child Protection. The program, which commenced on Monday, May 13, 2024, at Paradise Suites Hotel, aims to equip forty-three participants from various agencies including GPF, GID, GPS, SIS, and DLEAG, with the necessary knowledge and skills to protect children’s rights in policing service delivery.
The training will cover critical topics such as child rights, child-friendly policing, child abuse prevention, and responding to cases involving children. Participants are expected to gain a deeper understanding of the importance of safeguarding children and develop enhanced capabilities to handle cases involving minors in a sensitive and effective manner.
Deputy Inspector General of Police Momodou Sowe, speaking on behalf of IGP Touray, warmly welcomed Major General Richard Addo Gyane, the Commandant of KAIPTC, and his team to The Gambia. He emphasized the significance of this training for the country and urged participants to approach it with seriousness and dedication.
In his opening remarks, Major General Richard Addo Gyane highlighted the vulnerability of children to crime and child poverty. He reaffirmed KAIPTC’s commitment to supporting The Gambia Police Force in its capacity building and training efforts, particularly in the area of child protection.
This collaboration between the Gambia Police Force and KAIPTC underscores their shared commitment to ensuring the safety and well-being of children in The Gambia. The GPF will continue to work closely with partners and stakeholders to enhance knowledge and skills for the protection of children in the country.
