Gambiaj.com – (BANJUL, The Gambia) – The Gambia Police Force (GPF) has announced the promotion of more than 600 officers across various units and regions as part of its 2025 Promotion Exercise, a major step aimed at strengthening leadership and boosting operational effectiveness nationwide.

The exercise was conducted under the authority of the Police Act, Cap 18:01, which empowers the Inspector General of Police to appoint, promote, and discipline officers based on merit and institutional needs.

According to the GPF, this year’s process is central to its broader reforms to enhance professionalism, reinforce command structures, and elevate policing standards across the country.

The promotions span ranks from Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) in the senior cadre to Corporal in the junior ranks, with the majority of beneficiaries coming from the latter. The Police Force said this reflects a deliberate commitment to recognizing dedication, discipline, and consistent service among frontline officers.

Inspector General of Police Seedy Mukhtar Touray congratulated all newly promoted personnel, noting that their elevation is both a reward for past performance and a call to higher responsibility. He urged officers to uphold exemplary conduct and continue serving with professionalism, integrity, and respect for the rule of law.

The promotions form part of our strategic vision to professionalize the Force, strengthen community trust, and improve service delivery across all regions of The Gambia,” the GPF said in a statement.

The institution also extended appreciation to all officers for their continued dedication and encouraged those not selected in this cycle to remain steadfast. It reaffirmed that fairness, discipline, and continuous capacity development remain core values guiding its human resource management.

Reiterating its long-term goals, the GPF emphasized its commitment to building a disciplined, people-centered, and operationally ready institution devoted to safeguarding peace, protecting lives, and upholding national security.
