The Gambia Police Force, in collaboration with partners and stakeholders, is presently validating the National Policing Strategic Plan 2024–2028. The purpose of the Gambia Police Force Strategic Plan, 2018 – 2023 is to provide strategic guidance for continued development and operational capability to meet the current and future challenges of the police.

Mr. Assan Tangara, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Interior, speaking on behalf of the Minister, applauded IGP Sanyang for providing a clear sense of direction. Assistant Inspector General of Police Demba Sowe, representing the IGP, highlighted the significance of the validation process.

The five-year national strategic plan for 2024–2028 will guide the operations of the Gambia Police Force to improve policing in the country. The plan aims to rebuild the police framework and create 30 policy documents to guide the police’s core mandate.

It supports harmonization and streamlining of the police, aiming to improve service delivery and policy transformation. The police force has faced neglect and misuse by the past regime, which undermines its principles.

Despite financial resources being used since 2017, there has been little visible change. National Security Adviser Abubacarr Suleiman Jeng called for external donors to facilitate capacity training for security personnel.
