Gambiaj.com – (BANJUL, The Gambia) – The Tourism Security Unit (TSU) of The Gambia Police Force (GPF) has arrested and detained a police officer from the Police Intervention Unit in Kanifing following allegations of gross misconduct at the Tourism Development Area in Senegambia. The incident occurred on Thursday, November 28, 2024, prompting swift action by law enforcement authorities.
The officer is accused of manhandling a male and female at the beach, allegedly under the guise of enforcing “decency” in a public space. The GPF has described the alleged behavior as a serious breach of the ethical and professional standards expected of its officers.
In a public statement, the GPF categorically condemned any form of abuse of power or misconduct, emphasizing its zero-tolerance stance on such actions. “A thorough and impartial investigation is already underway,” the statement read, “and justice will be served. If found guilty, the officer will face the full force of the law and strict disciplinary measures to uphold the integrity of the force.”
The GPF reassured the public of its commitment to accountability and professionalism in its operations. “Misconduct has no place within the ranks of The Gambia Police Force,” the statement added, urging citizens to report any acts of abuse or misconduct by officers to maintain trust and integrity in policing.
The arrest and ongoing investigation serve as a critical reminder of the GPF’s pledge to uphold the highest standards of ethical conduct among its personnel, reinforcing public confidence in the institution’s commitment to justice and accountability.
