Gambiaj.com – (Banjul, The Gambia) – A violent confrontation erupted at Jah Oil Bond Road on Tuesday night, January 28, 2025, when a dispute between fueling station staff and a group of individuals escalated into a full-blown clash, prompting a forceful police intervention.
According to the Gambia Police Force, officers responded to distress calls regarding the altercation but were met with resistance upon arrival. Despite efforts to de-escalate the situation, the individuals involved overpowered the officers, forcing them to call for reinforcements.
Even with additional personnel at the scene, tensions remained high as the aggressors refused to comply with police directives and advanced toward the officers.
In an attempt to restore order, law enforcement issued multiple warnings and fired warning shots. However, the individuals continued their defiance and launched an attack on the officers.
Acting in self-defense, police shot one of the attackers in the leg, leading to his immediate apprehension, while two others were arrested.
The injured suspect, identified as 30-year-old Momodou Njie from Njoro Tukulor, CRR, is currently receiving treatment at the Royal Victoria Teaching Hospital (RVTH). The other two, Ousman Jobe, 25, from Tuba, and Ousainou Njie, 20, from Dakar, are in custody and cooperating with investigators.
Authorities confirmed that the arrested individuals face assault-related charges, while efforts are ongoing to track down the remaining suspects who fled the scene.
The police have urged the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities to help maintain law and order.
