Gambia Red Cross Society Advises Volunteers Against Symbol Use During Inter School Championship

Gambiaj.com – (BRIKAMA) – The Gambia Red Cross Society (GRCS) has advised its volunteers not to use any Red Cross symbols during the recent Inter School Championship held over the weekend. This decision was communicated through a letter from Sheriff Mboge, the Branch Officer of the Red Cross Brikama Branch, to its members.

The letter stated that the GRCS was approached by the West Coast Regional Athletic team on behalf of the National Organizing Team of the Senior School Sports for coverage support. Despite efforts to engage with the organizers and seek formal requests and budgets for coverage materials, there was no response or feedback on the Red Cross’s involvement.

As a result, BO Mboge instructed Red Cross volunteers not to provide coverage and strongly advised them against using any Red Cross logo or bid during the championship. This decision was made to protect and ensure the respect of Red Cross volunteers.

During the championship, our sources confirmed the absence of Red Cross volunteers, with only personnel from the Gambia Fire and Rescue Services present. Efforts to reach the BO of the West Coast Red Cross Branch for comment were unsuccessful.

The absence of Red Cross volunteers at the championship, a national event, raises questions about the organization’s involvement and support for such initiatives.
