Gambiaj.com – (NAPOLI, Italy) – In a significant operation yesterday, the Vasto-Arenaccia police station officers arrested two individuals, a 31-year-old Senegalese and a 26-year-old Gambian (names witheld), both with prior police records and irregular immigration statuses, for illegal possession of narcotics. The Gambian national also faces charges of threatening and resisting a public official, as well as aggravated damage to police property.
The arrests took place in Piazza Principe Umberto, where officers on patrol noticed the 31-year-old Senegalese attempting to evade them. Upon interception, the police found him in possession of 18 packets of marijuana (24 grams), 7 bars of hashish (7 grams), and 320 euros in various denominations, presumed to be proceeds from criminal activities.
A subsequent search at the suspect’s residence revealed additional illegal substances: 10 packets of marijuana (36 grams), a precision scale, and packaging materials.
The police said during the investigation, the 26-year-old Gambian, cohabiting with the first suspect, emerged from a bedroom in an agitated state and began to threaten the officers. Despite his resistance, the police managed to restrain him. In his room, they discovered a significant stash: 4 bricks and 35 bars of hashish (410 grams), 35 bars of marijuana (60 grams), two precision scales, 140 euros, and more packaging materials.
The 26-year-old’s aggression extended to damaging the door and protective barrier of the police service vehicle during his escort to the police office, leading to additional charges.
The swift actions of the Vasto-Arenaccia police have led to the seizure of a considerable quantity of drugs. The suspects remain in custody as investigations continue.
