Gambiaj.com – (Washington D.C.) – The Embassy of the Republic of The Gambia in Washington D.C. has issued an urgent notice to Gambian citizens and the broader diaspora community in the United States regarding significant policy changes to U.S. border security and immigration enforcement.

The Embassy’s communication follows a directive from the United States Department of State, which requested that governments inform their citizens about the heightened enforcement measures.

The new policy, driven by the administration of President Donald Trump, prioritizes the prosecution of foreign nationals for illegal entry and unlawful presence in the U.S., alongside other criminal offenses.

According to the statement, President Trump has ordered the U.S. military to assist the Department of Homeland Security in achieving “complete operational control” of the U.S. border.

This includes the creation of new National Defense Areas under military jurisdiction along the southern border. Foreign nationals attempting illegal entry through these areas, or elsewhere, are warned that they will face the full extent of legal prosecution.

The policy also targets individuals who legally enter the U.S. but overstay their visas or violate immigration laws. Such individuals face the possibility of arrest, heavy fines, lengthy prison terms, and deportation. Additionally, they risk permanent bans on future travel to the United States.

The Gambian Embassy emphasized that these developments require urgent attention from the Gambian diaspora in the United States and other Gambian citizens considering travel or residence in the country.

The Embassy encouraged all citizens to familiarize themselves with the new regulations to avoid potential legal consequences.

The Embassy remains committed to providing updates and support to the Gambian community as the situation evolves.
