Gambiaj.com – (BARCELONA, Spain) – A 23-year-old Gambian inmate at the Quatre Camins Penitentiary Center in La Roca del Vallès, Barcelona, has once again attacked prison staff, just a week after breaking the nose of another officer on October 14.

According to reports by ElCaso.com, the inmate, identified as S.T.A., violently assaulted three prison officers on Monday afternoon after refusing to comply with a standard security procedure requiring him to pass through a metal detector before returning to his cell.

The altercation occurred around 5:30 p.m. in the courtyard of Module 2. When officers reminded him of the mandatory screening, the inmate reportedly became aggressive, hurling insults and claiming he did not need to follow the rule since he was not carrying anything. Moments later, he lunged at one of the guards, scratching him on the head and breaking his glasses.

Other officers rushed to restrain him, leading to a brief struggle before he was subdued and handcuffed. He was subsequently transferred to the isolation unit, where he continued shouting insults and issuing threats against the prison staff.

Medical personnel at the facility treated the three injured officers for minor injuries, including a head contusion and a blow to the eye. None required hospitalization.

The region’s Justice Department responded on Monday by announcing plans to enhance security measures across correctional facilities.

Justice Minister Ramon Espadaler acknowledged that repeated attacks on correctional officers remain a serious concern. “All the actions we are taking aim to provide greater security and reduce the frequency of these assaults,” he said.
