Gambiaj.com – (Sicilia, Italy) – A Gambian national is facing imminent deportation from Italy following a violent assault against a local family in the Sicilian municipality of Petrosino. The man, whose identity has not been disclosed, was apprehended by the Marsala Police after allegedly attacking a moving car with stones and later resisting arrest.
According to authorities, officers from the Marsala Police Patrol Squad responded late at night to an emergency call from a local father who had been driving with his wife and young son near Via Marsala.
The man reported that their car was suddenly pelted with stones by an individual, presumed to be of Central African origin, who appeared without provocation and launched rocks at their vehicle. The attacker then escalated the situation by chasing the family’s car while arming himself with additional stones.
Upon receiving a detailed physical description from the victim, police officers launched an immediate search and swiftly located the suspect. He was found still in possession of a wooden pole and more stones, which he discarded upon seeing the patrol.
During the initial police check, the suspect refused to identify himself and became verbally abusive. As officers attempted to escort him to the police station for identification procedures, he tried to flee. When apprehended, he violently resisted and attempted to strike officers with the wooden pole.
The man was eventually subdued and brought to the police station, where he was formally informed that he was under investigation for aggravated damage, resisting arrest, and other offenses. Further checks revealed that he was residing illegally in Italy and had no valid documentation.
Following the intervention, the Prefect of Trapani issued an expedited expulsion and detention order. The migrant was taken to the Repatriation Detention Center (CPR) in Contrada Milo, where he remains in custody pending deportation to The Gambia.
Authorities also confirmed that the suspect was already known to law enforcement and the local communities of Strasatti and Petrosino for a string of violent and criminal acts, including aggravated damage, illegal weapon possession, attempted burglary, and previous assaults on public officials.
The deportation process is expected to be completed in the coming days.
