Gambiaj.com – (BANJUL, The Gambia) – The Gambia Police Force has announced significant progress in the investigation into the killing of Gabriel Adiaga, a 44-year-old Nigerian national whose disappearance was reported on October 14, 2025.
According to a statement issued by the police, the case began as a missing person complaint after a friend of the deceased alerted authorities that Mr. Adiaga’s family in Nigeria had been unable to reach him for several days.
Investigators at the Serekunda Division immediately launched a search around his residence.
A breakthrough came on October 15, when a partially burned body was discovered at Sting Corner. Within eight hours, police arrested Wurry Barry, a Gambian national, who later confessed to the crime.
Investigations revealed that on October 13, Mr. Adiaga and the suspect were involved in a violent altercation at the victim’s residence. Mr. Barry allegedly killed Adiaga, then attempted to conceal the crime by cleaning the scene, transporting the body to Sting Corner, and attempting to burn the remains along with other items.
He later returned to the residence to further erase bloodstains and destroy evidence.
Police say they have recovered key exhibits, including the suspected murder weapon—an iron rod—alongside blood-stained clothing, the victim’s motorcycles, house keys, and other forensic materials, all of which are now in custody for further analysis.
“The GPF investigation team demonstrated outstanding professionalism and due diligence, successfully uncovering the face behind this gruesome act within a remarkably short period,” the statement read, highlighting the Force’s growing capacity in intelligence-led and forensic investigations.
The suspect remains in custody as police continue to probe the motive behind the killing. Authorities have pledged to ensure that justice is served and reaffirmed their commitment to protecting lives and property.
The Police Force also expressed appreciation to community members and partner institutions for their support in the ongoing investigation.
