Gambiaj.com – (SAN RANIERI, Italia) – A 19-year-old Gambian boy (name withheld) was rescued by Italian police after being assaulted and robbed on San Ranieri Beach. The incident occurred when the young man, along with a 20-year-old friend from Bangladesh, found themselves the victims of a violent robbery.
According to the report, the two victims were enjoying a day at the beach with friends when they were approached by a 26-year-old Moroccan man. While the victims were in the water, the Moroccan allegedly stole a mobile phone and a wallet containing 300 euros from their belongings left on the beach. He then handed the stolen items to two Tunisian accomplices, who quickly disappeared.
Upon realizing they had been robbed, the Gambian and Bangladeshi men confronted the Moroccan, demanding the return of their belongings. The confrontation quickly turned violent when the Moroccan, armed with a broken bottle, threatened them and demanded more money. He even struck one of the victims with a stone, further escalating the situation.
Fearing for their safety, the two young men called for help. Police officers, who were conducting routine surveillance in the area, responded swiftly. They launched a search operation and successfully tracked down the 26-year-old Moroccan. Shortly after, they located the two Tunisian accomplices. One of the stolen mobile phones was found in the backpack of one of the Tunisians and was promptly returned to its rightful owner.
All three suspects were arrested and transferred to a local prison, where they remain in detention pending further investigation. The swift response by the Italian police prevented further harm to the victims and ensured that justice would be served.
This incident serves as a reminder of the risks faced by individuals, particularly migrants, in unfamiliar environments. It also underscores the crucial role of law enforcement in protecting vulnerable communities and maintaining public safety.
