Gambiaj.com – (BANJUL, The Gambia) – The Ministry of Basic and Secondary Education (MoBSE) and the Ministry of Higher Education, Research, Science, and Technology (MoHERST) have concluded a two-day Inter-Ministerial Senior Management Team (SMT) meeting aimed at strengthening alignment and collaboration in the country’s education sector.
The high-level convergence brought together the Ministers of both ministries — Hon. Dr. Habibatou Dramme of MoBSE and Hon. Prof. Pierre Gomez of MoHERST — along with permanent secretaries, deputy permanent secretaries, directors, senior education officers, representatives from UNESCO’s National Commission (NATCOM), the National Accreditation and Quality Assurance Authority (NAQAA), and the University of Education, The Gambia (UEG), among others.
Centered on the theme “Strengthening Alignment and Collaboration Across MoBSE and MoHERST,” the meeting focused on ensuring coherence between basic, secondary, and tertiary education curricula, particularly in Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) and related disciplines.
Key discussions also addressed clarifying boundaries between secondary and tertiary education to better prepare students for higher learning, as well as integrating data systems and coordinating joint sector planning.
At the conclusion of the meeting, a Joint Technical Committee was established to align TVET programmes across education levels, coordinate joint planning, and maintain ongoing collaboration between the ministries.
Both ministers reaffirmed their commitment to working together under a shared vision to deliver an improved, more coherent education system that meets the needs of learners at every stage.
