Gambia’s Faye Njie Secures Bronze at Senior African Judo Championship, Eyes Olympic Qualification

Gambiaj.com – (CAIRO) – Faye Njie, a Gambian International Judo athlete, has secured a bronze medal at the Senior African Judo Championship held in Cairo, Egypt, on Friday, 26th April. Competing in the 73kg men’s category, Njie fought his way to the third position in the competition, showcasing his skill and determination on the mat.

Njie’s journey to the bronze medal included a victory in the first round over Mohamed Jafty from Morocco. He continued his winning streak with another impressive win over an Angolan opponent in the quarter-finals. However, Njie faced a tough challenge in the semi-finals, where he was defeated by a Tunisian Judo Fighter.

Despite the loss in the semi-finals, Njie expressed his excitement and gratitude after the competition. Speaking to the media, he said, “The bronze medal means that I will most likely qualify now for the upcoming Olympic Games in Paris by gaining the continental quota spot.” Njie’s achievement at the Senior African Judo Championship is a significant step towards his Olympic dreams.

The Senior African Judo Championship is part of a series of qualifiers for the Summer Olympics in Paris 2024. Njie’s bronze medal not only reflects his skill and dedication but also brings pride to The Gambia as he moves closer to representing his country on the Olympic stage.
