Gambiaj.com – (BANJUL, The Gambia) – In a significant stride toward improving healthcare delivery across The Gambia, First Lady Fatoumata Bah Barrow officially inaugurated a new oxygen plant at the Edward Francis Small Teaching Hospital (EFSTH) today. The landmark development is expected to substantially enhance the quality and accessibility of healthcare services in the country, addressing a critical need in the Gambian health sector.
The launch of the oxygen plant was celebrated in a ceremonial event, where the First Lady lauded the collaborative efforts that made the project possible. “Today marks a new chapter in our healthcare system,” Mrs. Bah Barrow declared. “The oxygen plant represents not only a significant leap forward in our commitment to improving healthcare delivery but also a testament to the power of collaboration with organizations such as the Society for Critical Care Medicine (SCCM) and Direct Relief Organization (DRO).”
Representing the Minister of Health at the event, Professor Pierre Gomez emphasized the importance of the new facility. “The introduction of this oxygen plant is a game-changer for our healthcare system,” Gomez stated. “It addresses long-standing challenges, particularly those exacerbated by the COVID-19 pandemic. With this plant, we will ensure a steady and reliable supply of oxygen to our patients, which will greatly enhance the efficiency and sustainability of our healthcare services.”
Ambassador Ericka Bennett also praised the First Lady for her leadership and the impactful role of the Fatoumata Bah Barrow Foundation. “Madam Fatoumata Bah Barrow’s leadership has been instrumental in advancing our healthcare infrastructure,” Bennett noted. “We are deeply grateful to all the sponsors and partners, including the Ministry of Health and EFSTH officials, for their unwavering dedication to improving healthcare services for the Gambian people.”
