Gambia’s Gina Bass Beats Nigeria and Ghana to Win Women’s 100m Final African Games

The Gambia’s star female sprinter, Gina Bass has brilliantly won gold in 11.36s,in the ongoing 13th African Games, therefore improving on her silver from Rabat 2019.

Despite not leading out of the starting blocks, the 28-year-old sprinter showcased remarkable speed, overtaking Maia Alyse McCoy from Liberia and Nigeria’s Olayinka Olajide to claim the gold medal.

This achievement marked an upgrade from her silver medal finish in the previous edition of the multisport event.

Executing a powerful sprint, Gina made a stunning comeback from behind, ultimately crossing the finish line as the fastest African woman at the African Games.

Her impressive time of 11.36 seconds secured her the top spot on the podium, per African Games.

Maia Alyse McCoy from Liberia secured second place with 11.49s, while Olayinka Olajide from Nigeria clinched the bronze medal with 11.55s.

Regrettably, Mary Boakye of Ghana couldn’t match the crowd’s enthusiasm, finishing in a disappointing seventh position with a time of 11.71 seconds.

Liberia’s Maia McCoy clinching won the silver in 11.49s.
