Gambiaj.com – (HARARE, Zimbabwe) – In a formal ceremony held today at the Zimbabwe State House, Her Excellency Dr. Fatoumata Jahumpa Ceesay, High Commissioner of the Republic of Gambia to Zimbabwe, presented her credentials to President Emmerson Mnangagwa. The event was attended by Zimbabwe’s Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Trade, Frederick Shava.
During the presentation of her letters of credence, High Commissioner Jahumpa-Ceesay expressed her honor and delight at being accredited by His Excellency Mr. Adama Barrow, President of the Republic of The Gambia. She highlighted the long-standing relationship between The Gambia and Zimbabwe, which dates back to Zimbabwe’s liberation struggle and has since evolved into a strong bond of friendship and cooperation.
“The Gambia and Zimbabwe have maintained friendly and solidarity relations, aimed at strengthening bilateral cooperation in various areas,” she noted.
High Commissioner Jahumpa-Ceesay reaffirmed her commitment to enhancing the ties between the two nations, emphasizing the potential for increased collaboration in trade, education, and cultural exchange. She stressed the importance of strong diplomatic relations and joint efforts to address global challenges, urging both countries to build upon their shared values and histories.
“It is in my fervent hope, therefore, that my accreditation as High Commissioner to your great and beautiful country will make it possible for our two countries to renew hope in our common endeavors to raise Zimbabwean-Gambian friendship and cooperation to higher heights,” she stated.
The Gambian envoy also highlighted specific areas for strengthened cooperation, including agriculture, tourism, mining, and higher education. She expressed optimism about fostering investment and deepening ties in these sectors.
Concluding her remarks, High Commissioner Jahumpa-Ceesay extended her gratitude for the warm welcome she had received and expressed her eagerness for a productive tenure in Zimbabwe.
