Gambiaj.com – (DOHA, Qatar) – The Attorney General and Minister of Justice of the Republic of The Gambia, Dawda A. Jallow, on Tuesday visited the Qatar International Court and Dispute Resolution Centre (QICDRC) as part of his official mission to deepen legal cooperation and modernize The Gambia’s justice sector.
The Gambian delegation was received by HE Lord John Thomas, President of the Court, and Faisal bin Rashid Al Sahouti, CEO of the Qatar International Court, who jointly briefed Minister Jallow on the Court’s mandate, structure, and technological innovations.
Focus on Modern Judicial Practices
Minister Jallow was taken through the Court’s judicial jurisdiction, which covers civil and commercial disputes arising within the Qatar Financial Centre and the Free Zones.
Officials highlighted the types of cases handled by the Court and the procedural safeguards that underpin its work, independence, impartiality, and full transparency for all parties.
The delegation also toured the courtroom facilities, where they observed the advanced electronic case management system known as the E-Court.
The platform allows litigants to file cases, submit evidence, attend hearings remotely, and receive and enforce judgments, all through secure digital channels. Court officials described the system as one of the most sophisticated currently in use globally for commercial litigation.
Technology and Cooperation at the Center of Talks
CEO Faisal Al Sahouti underscored the strategic value of the visit, noting that it opens further avenues for cooperation in judicial development, capacity-building, and legal technology.
“This visit strengthens our partnership by enabling the exchange of expertise in civil and commercial adjudication and by exploring the best ways to utilize modern technology to make judicial processes more efficient,” he said.
Part of a Broader Push to Reinforce Gambia–Qatar Legal Ties
The visit follows Minister Jallow’s high-level meeting on Monday with Qatar’s Minister of Justice and Minister of State for Cabinet Affairs, HE Ibrahim bin Ali Al Mohannadi, during which both sides discussed strengthening bilateral judicial cooperation and expanding technical collaboration between their justice sectors.
Minister Jallow’s engagements in Doha reflect The Gambia’s ongoing efforts to modernize its justice system, introduce digital tools into court operations, and draw inspiration from jurisdictions that have successfully integrated technology into commercial dispute resolution.
The mission is expected to inform future reforms in The Gambia and to cement a growing legal partnership between Banjul and Doha.
