Gambia’s Police Chief and ECOMIG Leader Discuss Security Cooperation

Abdoulie Sanyang, the Inspector General of Police in The Gambia, welcomed Colonel Bubacarr Touré, the newly appointed leader of the ECOMIG mission, at his office in Banjul on Wednesday, March 13, 2024.

Colonel Touré’s visit is part of his ongoing familiarization tour of The Gambia’s security agencies, following his assumption of office on February 10, 2024.

The meeting primarily focused on enhancing cooperation and coordination between the Gambia Police Force and ECOMIG in their security operations within the country.

During their discussions, Inspector General Sanyang and Colonel Touré addressed various security challenges facing The Gambia and explored avenues for ECOMIG to further support the efforts of the Gambian police force.

Both leaders exchanged ideas on improving collaboration and information sharing between ECOMIG and local security agencies to effectively combat transnational crimes and maintain peace and stability in the region. Inspector General Sanyang expressed gratitude for ECOMIG’s ongoing support and reaffirmed the Gambian police force’s commitment to working closely with the regional peacekeeping mission to ensure the safety and security of all citizens.

This visit highlights the significance of collaboration among security institutions to safeguard the safety and security of The Gambia.
