Gambiaj.com – (DAKAR, Senegal) – The gendarmerie in Senegal is expected to hear the land case involving Ms. Oumou Diallo, the elderly mother of former First Lady Marième Faye Sall, and her son, Adama Faye, despite Ms. Diallo’s advanced age and frail health. According to sources, the gendarmerie’s Research Section has insisted on following protocol, despite concerns raised by Ms. Diallo’s relatives about her ability to endure the physical demands of the process.
Reports suggest that if Ms. Diallo is unable to travel to the gendarmerie, authorities may consider sending a police vehicle, colloquially referred to as a “basket of salad,” to transport her. This proposal came after her family informed the gendarmes of her deteriorating health and limited mobility, emphasizing the challenges she would face in making the journey.
The case, which also involves Ms. Diallo’s son Adama Faye, is centered on a land dispute. While the exact date for their hearing has not been confirmed, it is expected to take place soon. The gendarmerie has stressed that there will be no exceptions to the rules, and all individuals involved will be subject to the same procedures.
Veteran Senegalese journalist Madiambal Diagne commented on the situation, noting that public outcry following the news of Ms. Diallo’s convocation may have prompted authorities to reconsider their approach. He revealed on his social media page that the prosecutor has now instructed investigators to visit Ms. Diallo’s home, where she will be questioned as a witness, rather than requiring her to travel to the gendarmerie.
