MoHERST, in partnership with the Commonwealth of Learning (COL), has recently introduced the Gender Scorecards to the MoHERST Senior Management Team (SMT) and discussed their implementation in the education sector in a session held a week ago.
The participants in the induction were briefed on the importance of gender equality in education and how gender scorecards can be used as a tool to monitor progress and identify areas for improvement.
MoHERST and COL collaborate to expand distance education and communication technologies, addressing gender mainstreaming needs in tertiary and higher educational institutions.
Emily Sarr, CoL’s consultant, emphasized MoHERST’s leadership in implementing the Gender Scorecard, emphasizing the Commonwealth’s aspirations and the need to mainstream gender in underserved areas.
The Gender Scorecard process involves two phases: assessing the internal environment, focusing on organizational culture, and examining external programs and outcomes from institutions.
According to her, the goal is to cater to the diverse needs of everyone within the institutions. “To achieve this, a roadmap will be developed based on surveys and external assessments.” She remarked
The consultant emphasized CoL’s commitment to implementing the Gender Scorecard, highlighting a solutions-oriented approach to address issues related to the Gender Scorecards.
Mrs. Fatou Janneh, TVET focal point and Gender Scorecard Project focal point, emphasized the gender team’s commitment to the cause during an interactivity-filled discussion with MoHERST management and staff.
