Ghana is set to introduce bilateral roaming services with the Gambia, Togo, and Benin, according Ursula Owusu-Ekuful, the Ghanaian Minister of Communications and Digitalization. This move follows a successful agreement with Côte d’Ivoire in 2023, making Ghana and Côte d’Ivoire the first ECOWAS nations to implement the ECOWAS Free Roaming Plan.
During a news conference in Accra on Sunday, February 18, 2024, Minister Owusu-Ekuful highlighted the significance of the free roaming service. Ghanaian customers traveling to Côte d’Ivoire will be able to receive calls without incurring roaming fees. Similarly, calls made from Côte d’Ivoire to Ghana will be charged at local rates, promoting seamless communication between the two countries.
Moreover, subscribers traveling between Ghana and Côte d’Ivoire will be exempt from international roaming charges, enhancing connectivity and communication within the ECOWAS region.
The launch of bilateral roaming services with Togo, Benin, and the Gambia underscores Ghana’s commitment to enhancing digital connectivity and cooperation within the ECOWAS bloc.
