Gambiaj.com – (BANJUL, The Gambia) – National Assembly Member for Bintang Karanai, Hon. Bakary K. Badjie, has firmly ruled out any possibility of aligning with the ruling government ahead of the 2026 elections, declaring “May God forbid” when asked whether he would consider such a move.
Speaking in an interview, Hon. Badjie dismissed speculation about potential collaboration with the ruling party, repeating the phrase to underscore the strength of his position.
“With the ruling government, may God forbid,” he said. “If I intended to collaborate with them, there would be no reason for me to form my own political party.”
The lawmaker explained that his decision to pursue an independent political path is driven by deep dissatisfaction with the current state of governance, arguing that joining the ruling party would amount to a betrayal of his constituents.
“I am not happy with how the nation is being governed, and I cannot go further to betray my people by joining the ruling government,” he said.
While categorically closing the door on any alliance with the government, Hon. Badjie noted that cooperation with other political parties remains a possibility, provided such engagement is guided by national interest rather than political expediency.
“Based on the interest of the nation, yes, collaboration is possible,” he said, adding that he has no specific party in mind but remains open to dialogue.
He also reaffirmed his commitment to his duties in the National Assembly, stressing that he continues to uphold his principles while representing both his constituency and the country as a whole.
His remarks come amid intensifying political maneuvering as parties and independent actors position themselves ahead of the 2026 elections, with alliance-building expected to play a significant role in shaping the electoral landscape. The 2026 elections are anticipated to be highly competitive and closely watched both domestically and internationally.
