Gambiaj.com – (KASSA KUNDA) – The Village Development Committee (VDC) of Kassa Kunda in Kombo Village, Kombo Central District, has expressed deep disappointment with the government’s recent decision to withdraw a land case between the villagers and one Musa Sabally backed by his family. The case, which was being heard at the Brikama Magistrate Court, has raised concerns among the villagers, with the VDC accusing the government of inciting violence in their community.
Speaking to the media, Bakary Jalang Sanneh, the PRO of the VDC, explained that the case stemmed from allegations against Musa Sabally for selling and falsifying land documents. The matter was initially reported to the Chief and later to the police commissioner of the West Coast Region, leading to an investigation.
“The police conducted their investigation and found that our allegations were true. Musa Sabally was subsequently taken into custody at Madina Police Station, where he admitted to the allegations and confirmed that he had stamped four documents,” Sanneh stated.
Sanneh further explained that Musa Sabally was taken to court, where he confessed to the allegations and was detained at Mile 2. However, the state prosecutor, instead of pursuing the case, quoted a section of the constitution and allowed Musa Sabally to go home, much to the dismay of the VDC.
“The government’s decision to withdraw the case without consulting us is unacceptable. We have followed the principles of the law to ensure justice, and now the state is forcing us to relent. This is not how citizens should be protected,” Sanneh lamented.
The VDC has called on the Minister of Justice, Dawda Jallow, and the Governor of West Coast Region, Ousman Bojang, to intervene in the matter. They argue that the government’s actions are undermining their efforts to uphold the law and protect their community from criminal activities.
“We reported a crime in our community, and the police confirmed our claims. However, the government’s decision to withdraw the case raises questions about their commitment to justice and the rule of law,” Sanneh concluded.
The VDC of Kassa Kunda is now seeking answers from the government and is determined to continue their fight for justice and accountability in their community.
