Gambiaj.com – (BANJUL) – The Gambian government has announced a further reduction in the price of fertilizer, offering a significant subsidy to support the country’s farming community. The price of a bag of fertilizer has been decreased from D1150 to D1100, representing an additional subsidy of about 24 million on top of the 50% subsidy provided last year.
This reduction comes as part of the government’s efforts to support farmers and enhance agricultural productivity in the country. The total stock of fertilizer currently in the country amounts to 479,000 bags, equivalent to 23,000 metric tons, with an additional 5000 metric tons or 100,000 bags expected within the next 30 days. This brings the total stock of fertilizer for the year 2024/2025 to 579,000 bags or 28,000 metric tons.
Farmers have been assured of the full support of the Government of His Excellency, President Adama Barrow, in the provision of inputs as well as equipment. This move is expected to benefit the farming community and contribute to the growth of the agricultural sector in The Gambia.
