Gambiaj.com – (BANJUL, The Gambia) – This morning we reported an incident involving a Police intervention unit (PIU) officer of the The Gambia Police Force (GPF) being arrested in Brikama.

The police has now come out, in a press release, to reveal that the arrested PIU officer has been dismissed after an internal investigation found him guilty of impersonation, fraudulent conduct, and gross professional misconduct in connection with unauthorized withdrawals at the Brikama Police Cooperative Credit Union.

According to a statement issued on November 14, 2025, the officer, whose name is yet unknown, attempted to withdraw funds by presenting himself under the identity of another Credit Union member.

Staff detected the deception and immediately apprehended him before handing him over to police investigators.

Subsequent inquiries linked the incident to several earlier unauthorized withdrawals from members’ accounts, prompting a broader probe into the officer’s activities.

The Inspector General of Police, Seedy Mukhtar Touray, ordered the officer’s immediate dismissal following the conclusion of the investigation, which confirmed a deliberate attempt to defraud fellow officers and undermine the integrity of the institution.

The GPF stressed that the misconduct was an isolated act by a single officer and not reflective of the Force’s values or ethics.

The police reaffirmed its commitment to enforcing discipline across all ranks and pledged that any officer found in violation of professional standards will face decisive action “without fear or favor.”

The Police Force also reassured the public of its steadfast dedication to integrity, accountability, and delivering the highest standards of service to the nation.
