Gambiaj.com – (BANJUL, The Gambia) – The Gambia Police Force (GPF) has announced the immediate suspension of all permits for road shows across the country, citing growing public safety, traffic management, and security concerns.
In a public notice, the police said the decision follows a comprehensive review of road show activities, which have increasingly been assessed as posing risks to pedestrians, motorists, and other road users.
According to the GPF, such events have also obstructed the free flow of traffic and, in some cases, hampered emergency response services and the maintenance of public order.
With the directive now in force and effective until further notice, the police confirmed that no approvals will be granted for road shows nationwide.
The suspension covers all related activities, including mobile promotions, street parades, and similar events conducted on public roads, highways, or open public spaces.
The GPF explained that the temporary measure is intended to give relevant authorities time to reassess existing guidelines, strengthen coordination mechanisms, and review safety and regulatory frameworks governing road shows.
The aim, the police said, is to ensure that future activities, once permitted, are conducted in a manner that prioritizes public safety, the lawful use of public spaces, and the free movement of people and vehicles.
The police have urged all individuals, organizations, and event promoters to strictly comply with the directive, warning that any road show conducted without authorization during the suspension period will be considered unlawful and dealt with in accordance with the law.
The Gambia Police Force added that updates on the review process or the eventual lifting of the suspension will be communicated through its official channels. It also expressed appreciation to the public and stakeholders for their understanding and cooperation as it works to maintain peace, safety, and order across the country.
