Gambiaj.com – (BISSAU, Guinea Bissau) – Guinea-Bissau and The Gambia have, on Thursday, signed a series of agreements in Bissau, covering various areas such as the economy, broadcasting services, maritime cooperation, investments, tax authority, customs, and culture. These agreements were the outcome of the fourth Joint Cooperation Committee meeting, which brought together delegations from both countries on June 26 and 27.

The agreements were signed by Guinea-Bissau’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Carlos Pinto Pereira, and The Gambia’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, International Cooperation, and Gambians Abroad, Mamadou Tangara. The ministers also signed an agreement in the field of tourism.

The signed documents encompass a wide range of sectors, including education, culture, tourism, social communication, and cooperation between the Gambia Revenue Authority and Guinea-Bissau’s General Directorate of Customs.

Both parties agreed to continue exploring the possibility of promoting joint purchases of essential goods, such as rice, sugar, flour, cooking oil, and milk, through partnerships between private actors from both countries. This initiative aims to contribute to a sustainable pricing policy for essential goods in their respective nations.

A memorandum of understanding was also signed between the Ministry of National Education, Higher Education, and Scientific Research of Guinea-Bissau and the Ministry of Science and Technology of The Gambia.

According to a joint communiqué from the meeting, the delegations from both countries discussed the possibility of diversifying and consolidating activities in sectors of mutual strategic interest, such as defense, security, justice, fisheries, agriculture, social communication, road and maritime transport, and culture.

They reiterated their commitment to participating in joint efforts for the peaceful resolution of disputes in West Africa, particularly in strengthening the unity and cohesion of ECOWAS member states, based on the principles and objectives of Vision 2050 and Agenda 2063.
