Gambiaj.com – (BISSAU, Guinea-Bissau) – Domingos Simões Pereira, the Speaker of Guinea-Bissau’s dissolved parliament, has called for the resumption of parliamentary work on September 20. He announced a series of meetings with the parliamentary bureau, parliamentary group leaders, and the standing committee.

According to press releases issued on Wednesday September 18, the first meeting will take place with the parliamentary bureau members, including Pereira as president, and vice-presidents Fernando Dias and Satu Camará, along with secretaries Dan Yalá and Gabriela Fernandes. This will be followed by a meeting with the leaders of the four parliamentary groups, and an hour later, the standing committee, which holds the powers of the parliamentary plenary, will convene.

These meetings will focus on several critical issues: the country’s socio-political situation, an assessment of the political and constitutional implications of sovereign body actions, the current state of the judiciary, particularly the Supreme Court of Justice, and the expiration of the National Elections Commission’s executive Committee, elected during the 9th legislature.

Parliament was dissolved in December 2023 by President Umaro Sissoco Embalo, who cited a “serious institutional crisis” centered on the legislative body.
