Gambiaj.com – (CONAKRY, Guinea) – Abdoulaye Yéro Baldé, the candidate of the National Front for the Defence of Democracy in Guinea (FRONDEG) who placed second in the December 28, 2025 presidential election, on Friday evening formally filed an appeal challenging the provisional results at the Supreme Court, Conakry Infos has learned from multiple sources.
According to provisional results released by the General Directorate of Elections (DGE), Yéro Baldé secured just over 6 percent of the vote, trailing far behind incumbent President Mamadi Doumbouya, who was credited with more than 86 percent.
The filing of the appeal followed hours of uncertainty and tension. Yéro Baldé arrived at the Supreme Court at around 5:00 p.m. on Friday, the final day of the 72-hour legal window for lodging electoral petitions. However, several witnesses said he and his legal team were initially denied entry by security personnel, without any official explanation.
Efforts by his lawyers to reach senior officials of the Supreme Court reportedly went unanswered, heightening concern as the legal deadline drew closer.
The impasse was eventually resolved following the intervention of the President of the Bar Association, Me Diop Souaré, who was urgently contacted by the candidate’s lawyers, including Me Almamy Samory Traoré. After this mediation, Yéro Baldé and his team were granted access to the court premises and were able to formally submit their appeal.
Prior to the filing, the FRONDEG candidate had publicly denounced what he described as several “irregularities” capable of “undermining the credibility of the vote” in the presidential election.
An official statement from FRONDEG addressing both the Supreme Court incident and the substance of the appeal is expected in the coming hours.
Although the episode was resolved at the last minute, it has highlighted persistent tensions and uncertainties surrounding Guinea’s electoral dispute resolution process, even as the overall outcome of the election appears unlikely to be overturned given the scale of the announced margin between the leading candidates.
