Guinea’s Supreme Court Confirms Final List of Nine Candidates for December 2025 Presidential Election

Gambiaj.com – (CONAKRY, Guinea) – Guinea’s Supreme Court has released the final list of nine candidates who will contest the country’s presidential election scheduled for December 28, 2025, officially closing the legal phase of the electoral process after weeks of tension and dispute.

In a statement published on November 12, the Court confirmed that all nine names were already included in the provisional list announced earlier, and that none of the 18 rejected candidates who had filed appeals were reinstated.

The transitional president, General Mamadi Doumbouya, is among those cleared to run, facing a field largely composed of lesser-known political figures.

Other confirmed candidates include Makalé Camara, Ibrahima Abe Sylla, Faya Lansana Millimono, Abdoulaye Kourouma, Mohamed Nabé, Elhadj Bouna Keïta, and Mohamed Chérif Tounkara.

The Court explained that the list was finalized based on the order of submission and after a “rigorous examination” of the application files.

The decision effectively excludes prominent opposition leaders such as Cellou Dalein Diallo, Sidya Touré, and former president Alpha Condé, whose candidacies had already been invalidated at earlier stages.

Their disqualification has fueled accusations that the electoral process is being tightly controlled by the ruling junta.

Several high-profile aspirants were rejected for failing to meet specific legal requirements. Ousmane Kaba’s file was deemed incomplete because he did not include a copy of his national identity card, while Lansana Kouyaté was disqualified for failing to submit a declaration of assets as required by the electoral code.

The case of Aboubacar “Toumba” Diakité, still detained at the Conakry civil prison, has drawn particular attention. His application was rejected after he was unable to secure a medical certificate confirming his fitness to contest, reportedly because prison authorities did not act on a letter requesting his transfer to a medical board.

With Justice Fodé Bangoura’s announcement, the focus now shifts to the next phase of the process, the campaign period, set to begin on November 28. According to the Independent National Electoral Commission (CENI), campaigning will run for several weeks leading up to the December 28 vote.

Both domestic and international observers have called for a peaceful, transparent, and inclusive campaign to ensure the credibility of the first election to be held under Guinea’s transition government.
