Gambiaj.com – (BANJUL, The Gambia) – The High Court in Banjul, presided over by Justice Oleidi U. Uduma, has granted a divorce to Susann Instedt, a Swedish national, dissolving her marriage to Musa Camara after a bitter dispute over fraud, abuse, and deception.
Delivering judgment, Justice Uduma narrated the history of the couple’s relationship, noting that Susann—who has five adult daughters and three grandchildren—met Musa in Sweden in 2020, where they began a romantic relationship. At the time, Musa had claimed to be based in the Netherlands but was facing immigration challenges.
The court heard that despite these difficulties, Musa expressed interest in marrying Susann, and the couple tied the knot in September 2021.
Susann subsequently agreed to relocate permanently to The Gambia and purchased a house in Sukuta valued at D4 million. However, Musa later confessed that he had instead bought an empty plot of land in his own name, promising to build a house there.
Justice Uduma further revealed that tensions in the marriage grew after Susann discovered irregularities in Musa’s dealings.
When she visited The Gambia in 2022, Musa’s behavior reportedly turned hostile, with him insulting her, refusing intimacy, and frequently being intoxicated. He allegedly called her “old and ugly” while mismanaging the taxi she had purchased for him and pressuring her to buy a new car.
In an effort to save the marriage, Susann bought a luxury car worth D750,000 in her own name, but Musa continued to use it for his business while treating her aggressively.
She later discovered that the money she had sent for their Sukuta home was instead used to renovate Musa’s family house in Brikama. Matters worsened when Musa shockingly declared that he wished to marry one of her grown daughters.
The court also heard that Musa had been secretly married with a young family while still married to Susann.
Justice Uduma, in her ruling, noted that Musa did not oppose the divorce and had claimed that all properties given to him were gifts. The judge dissolved the marriage and ordered the Registrar of the High Court to issue a certificate of divorce.
Additionally, Justice Uduma directed Musa Camara to either transfer ownership of the D750,000 vehicle to Susann or reimburse her the same amount.
