Historic MOU Signed at GITEX AFRICA 2024: The Gambia and Presight to Transform Digital Economy

Gambiaj.com – (On the second day of GITEX AFRICA 2024, held on May 30 in Marrakech, Morocco, a significant milestone was reached in The Gambia’s journey towards becoming a digital nation. A Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) was signed between Presight, a leading G42 company, and the Ministry of Communications and Digital Economy of The Gambia. This MOU is aimed at implementing the Ministry’s five pillars and enhancing cybersecurity, with the overarching goal of transforming The Gambia into a digital nation.

Since 2023, efforts have been underway to finalize this agreement. The signing ceremony marked the first MOU of its kind in The Gambia’s digital economy sector, representing a leap forward in establishing capital-intensive digital infrastructure and capabilities that will drive the nation towards achieving its ambitious goals.

The MOU was signed by Mr. Lamin Camara, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, accompanied by Mr. Sanusi Drammeh, Director of Cybersecurity and focal point for the initiative. Prof. Abdou Karim Jallow, Director General of The Gambia ICT Agency (GICTA), was also present, playing a crucial role in supporting and witnessing this historic moment.

The Ministry expressed its gratitude to Francisco Gonçalves for initiating the collaboration, and to Dr. Mohammad Al-Kuwaiti, Head of the Cybersecurity Council of UAE, Dr. Abdel, CEO of Presight, and Mr. Ashish Dalwani for their cooperation in making this achievement possible. Special thanks were also extended to the Dubai World Trade Centre, particularly CEO Ms. Trixie and her staff, for organizing the main event and facilitating the meetings that led to this agreement.

With the MOU now signed, the next step is to establish a solid roadmap for its implementation. This roadmap will guide the efforts to build a robust digital infrastructure, ensuring The Gambia’s successful transformation into a digital economy.

This landmark agreement not only signifies a major advancement for The Gambia but also sets a precedent for future collaborations aimed at driving digital innovation and economic growth in the region.
