Gambiaj.com – (BAKAU) – The Gambia’s Independence Stadium has embarked on its second phase of remodeling and rehabilitation, aiming to bring significant changes to the national edifice. This phase, categorized as short-term works (Phase 2), forms part of the new additional scope of works identified by the Confederation of African Football (CAF).
The ongoing renovations include expanding the players’ tunnel, upgrading the media tribune and media center, raising the fence, painting, landscaping, adding parking signage, and installing a new scoreboard. These upgrades are specifically designed to meet CAF requirements for hosting international matches.
It is worth noting that Gambia’s only stadium was previously banned from hosting international events due to its poor condition. The current remodeling efforts are geared towards bringing the stadium up to standard and enabling it to once again welcome top-tier football matches.
The project, which started on Monday, is expected to enhance the stadium’s infrastructure and create a more conducive environment for players, media, and spectators. The renovations signify a significant step forward for sports infrastructure in The Gambia and are poised to elevate the country’s standing in the international sporting arena.
