The Inspector General of Police, Seedy Mukhtar Touray, convened with the Task Force established to combat the proliferation of “Kush,” a potent form of cannabis, on Thursday, April 4, in Banjul. This Task Force, comprised of experts from the Drug Law Enforcement Agency and the Ministry of Health, aims to develop robust strategies to tackle the challenges posed by the use and distribution of “Kush.”
During the meeting, Inspector General Touray underscored the critical importance of cooperation and coordination among all relevant agencies to effectively address the “Kush” issue. He emphasized the necessity of a holistic approach, encompassing not only law enforcement but also prevention, treatment, and rehabilitation efforts.
Task Force members contributed their insights and experiences, deliberating on potential strategies to disrupt the supply chain and reduce the demand for “Kush.” They collectively agreed to implement a comprehensive, multi-faceted approach targeting both suppliers and users of the substance, with the aim of significantly curbing drug abuse in the country.
IGP Touray further stressed the significance of collaboration between law enforcement agencies and the community in combating drug trafficking. He expressed unwavering support for the initiative, highlighting the need for a unified front in this critical endeavor. “We are fully committed to this cause. Tackling ‘Kush’ demands a unified approach, and together, we will make significant strides,” remarked IGP Touray.
The meeting concluded with a strong commitment from all parties to work closely together and implement the agreed-upon strategies, reflecting a shared determination to combat the menace of “Kush” in The Gambia.
