Gambiaj.com – (BANJUL, The Gambia) – Authorities in Old Yundum are currently investigating the heartbreaking deaths of a mother and her teenage daughter, whose bodies were discovered in their home on Friday, June 28, 2024. The victims, identified as Majula Jabie, aged 40, and her daughter Fatoumatta Ceasay, aged 14, were found deceased in their residence in Sinchu Sorrie.
The investigation was initiated after a distress call prompted the Old Yundum Police CID Unit, accompanied by the Criminal Records Office (CRO) and additional CID personnel, to swiftly respond to the scene. Upon entering the premises, the bodies of Jabie and Ceasay were found on their bed. Standard CSI protocols were meticulously followed before the bodies were respectfully transferred to the EFSTH mortuary in Banjul.
Initial evidence recovered from the scene included a charcoal pot and a boiler containing herbs and liquid, which have been secured by police for further analysis. As the investigation progresses, authorities are focusing on conducting postmortem examinations to ascertain the exact cause of death.
At this stage, no suspects have been officially identified, but key family members are currently assisting with inquiries to provide valuable insights into the circumstances surrounding the tragic incident.
Local residents of Sinchu Sorrie have expressed shock and sadness over the deaths, describing Jabie and Ceasay as valued members of the community. A sense of mourning has descended upon the neighborhood as they await further developments from the ongoing investigation.
The police have assured the public that they are diligently pursuing all leads and will provide updates as additional information becomes available.
