JACOB MENDY enjoyed an “unbelievable” week and he hopes there is more to celebrate when Wrexham head to Harrogate Town this evening.
The wing-back made his international debut when he started Gambia’s 2-0 defeat to Ivory Coast in World Cup qualifying last Monday
Back with his club for Saturday’s League Two clash against Morecambe at The Racecourse, Mendy came off the bench in the first-half and he scored the third goal in the 6-0 victory which took the Reds up to second in the table ahead of tonight’s clash at Weatherby Road.
“It was a really great week for me,” said the 26-year-old.
“Making my debut for Gambia was a really proud moment, not just for me but for my family and friends.
“I felt so happy with my performance and getting the chance to play for my country, although not happy after the game because of the result.
“Coming back to Wrexham and scoring in my first game back, and winning, made it an unbelievable week.

“Hopefully we can get three points at Harrogate and keep the winning run going.”
Mendy cut inside past two players and smashed the ball into the roof of the net to put Wrexham 3-0 ahead.
“It was a great goal,” he said.
“Those are the kind of goals you dream about as a kid, coming inside and shooting.”
Mendy came on in the 27th minute for Anthony Forde who went off injured and although he had to operate on the right flank rather than his preferred left wing, he felt at home.
“It is not the first time I have played there,” he said.
“I just had to get used to it a little bit but I actually like playing on the right.
“I always try to give my best whenever I play and do what I can.”
Wrexham’s biggest win of the season was the ideal way to bounce back from the 2-0 defeat to Accrington Stanley the previous weekend when the 11-game unbeaten run came to an end.
“We showed once again the character we have got and what we are all about,” said Mendy, who missed the Accrington loss because he was away on international duty.
“It was a great response from the last game.
“We are not used to losing a lot but when it has happened, we come back from that really well.
“You can’t always win games, especially in this league.
“We will have more games where we don’t win but the best thing is the way that we come back.”
Wrexham were well in control at the interval but scored another three goals in the second period to complete a resounding victory.
Mendy stressed the importance of there being no let-up from the Reds despite being in a comfortable position at half-time.
“We spoke about being relentless at half-time and trying to get the next goal and then the next goal,” he added.
“Always try and get more.
“We always more so you have got to keep pushing.
“Scoring six goals and keeping a clean sheet is perfect. What else can you ask for?”
