Since 5 AM this morning, the Kanilai ferry, which departed from Banjul en route to Barra, has been adrift at sea. Passengers onboard have reported that the ferry’s engines are currently inactive, leaving it unable to reach its intended destination.
Eyewitnesses have spotted the ferry near Buniadou end, where it has remained stranded for hours, drifting further away from Barra, Essau, and Sami. Passengers are growing increasingly concerned and frustrated as they watch the ferry float aimlessly in the water.
The crew is reportedly working to resolve the engine issue, but time is of the essence as the ferry remains stranded at sea. The situation remains uncertain, with passengers eagerly awaiting updates on when they can expect to reach land.
Meanwhile, passengers and their families are experiencing stress and annoyance as a result of the Gambia Ferry Services’ silence over the emergency affecting the passengers and the ferry. To maintain safety, it is imperative that they offer updates and assurances.
