Gambiaj.com – (BANJUL, The Gambia) – The United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres has appointed Karl-Frédérick Paul of Haiti as the United Nations Resident Coordinator in The Gambia, with the approval of the host government. Mr. Paul has already assumed his duties starting from 16 June.
Mr. Paul brings with him two decades of extensive experience in development and humanitarian work, having held significant leadership roles within various NGOs across Africa and Latin America. His career is marked by a strong commitment to aligning international NGOs’ strategies with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) through both programmatic and humanitarian preparedness and response initiatives.
Before his current appointment, Mr. Paul served as the Resident Representative for Plan International in Burkina Faso and Benin. He also held the position of Country Director for CARE in his home country, Haiti. His international experience spans multiple countries, including Tunisia, the Democratic Republic of Congo, Burundi, and Côte d’Ivoire.
Mr. Paul’s educational background is equally impressive. He holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Finance from Quisqueya University in Port-au-Prince, Haiti, and dual Master’s degrees in Business Administration and Strategic Management from the University of Belgrano in Buenos Aires, Argentina.
His appointment is expected to bring a wealth of knowledge and expertise to The Gambia, enhancing the country’s development programs and humanitarian efforts. As the new Resident Coordinator, Mr. Paul will work closely with the Gambian government, international partners, and local communities to advance sustainable development and address pressing humanitarian needs.
