Keba Madi Bojang: ‘Expulsion from NPP Was Strategy to Force Disclosure on New Party’

Gambiaj.com – (BANJUL, The Gambia) – Keba Madi Bojang, the de facto leader of the emerging National Democratic Party (NDP), has described his recent expulsion from the ruling National People’s Party (NPP) as a calculated move by the party leadership to provoke a premature disclosure of the NDP’s plans.

In an exclusive interview with The Voice newspaper, Bojang, who until recently served as the NPP’s National Youth President, said his silence since the political fallout is deliberate and strategic.

The reason they are putting out all the letters is to push me to talk,” he said, referring to multiple communiqués and statements issued by the NPP since his removal. “But I’m not going to do that until the time comes for me to speak out.”

Bojang and three other former NPP executive members—Lamin Jatta, Sainey Manneh, and Lamin Touray—were expelled from the party on June 20, 2025, in a statement signed by Deputy Spokesperson Seedy S.K. Njie.

The NPP accused the quartet of violating internal rules and regulations without disclosing further details.

However, Bojang sees the expulsion not as a disciplinary action, but as a tactical attempt to elicit information about the NDP, a new political outfit poised to launch in The Gambia’s increasingly fragmented political landscape.

I don’t have anything to talk about our removal from the NPP executive. Let them do anything they want. If they want, let them come and kill me, but I have nothing to say about the removal,” he said in defiance, underscoring what appears to be growing tensions between the ruling party and its former youth wing leaders.

Bojang emphasized that he will only speak publicly once the NDP is officially registered as a political party. “I’m not done with the program of our new party, so I’m not saying anything until I’m done,” he stated.

The silence from Bojang and his allies since their ouster had raised speculation within political circles, with some interpreting it as uncertainty or retreat.

But the former youth leader’s latest remarks suggest a calculated pause aimed at avoiding distraction as the NDP lays down its foundational structures.

As the political season heats up ahead of the 2026 general elections, all eyes will be on when and how the NDP unveils its leadership, platform, and policies—especially given that its founding members were once at the heart of President Adama Barrow’s ruling party.
