Kebba Kanteh Faces Court for Alleged Peace Breach at US Embassy in Kanifing

Gambiaj.com – (KANIFING) – Kebba Kanteh appeared before Principal Magistrate Isatou Sallah Mbai at the Kanifing Magistrates’ Court today, accused of breaching the peace at the US Embassy in Kanifing.

Kanteh is charged with conduct conducive to breaches of the peace, contrary to section 9 of the Public Order Act, revised laws of The Gambia 2009. He pleaded not guilty.

According to the particulars, on May 4, 2024, Kanteh went to the American Embassy in Kanifing and allegedly conducted himself in a manner likely to cause a breach of the peace by showing solidarity with Palestine and writing on the pillars of the embassy.

Prosecution Officer M.A. Jallow, representing the Inspector General of Police (IGP), did not oppose bail for the accused and requested an adjournment to provide the court with witnesses.

Magistrate Sallah Mbai granted Kanteh bail in the sum of D50,000. As a condition, a Gambian must deposit a valid ID or passport and swear an affidavit of means. The matter was adjourned until June 6, 2024.
